Simon Trela was born in Poland. When he was 11 years old he was forced to leave his native land due to problems his family was facing with the Communist regime. He lived for three years in a refugee camp in Germany. He arrived in Canada in 1992. Simon attended University Hill Secondary in Vancouver, BC. He later attended the University of Alberta where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in German Literature in 2001. Shortly after that Simon was accepted to the University of Alberta Law School from which he graduated in 2004. Simon was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2006.
It is Simon’s personal experiences, which he does not always remember as pleasant, that have inspired Simon to practise predominantly in the area of Immigration Law. Simon practices in all areas of immigration law including: Foreign workers, Refugee Law, Deportation Appeals, Sponsorship Appeals, Judicial Reviews. Simon represents a very large volume of Canadian employers who continue to take advantage of the Foreign Worker program.
He was Chair of the Citizenship and Immigration Alberta Northern Section from 2010-2012. Simon has provided advice to the Media and also appeared on CTV news where he offered his opinions on several legislative topics in areas of Immigration law. Simon continues to appear on the Polish radio in Edmonton where he updates members of his Polish Community on any developments in that area.
Simon also practices criminal law and has successfully defended clients involved in serious criminal charges.
